Ahmanson Research & Study Grants
The CMRS Center for Early Global Studies (in partnership with the UCLA Library) offers funding to support graduate-student research projects and travel within the US or abroad for research in any aspect of the period from the third to the seventeenth century CE or to attend an educational program or class directly related to the student’s academic training in any aspect of the period from the third to the seventeenth century CE. Please note that these funds are not intended to support enrollment in internship programs or language courses.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please apply at least two weeks before the travel departure date.
Send the following materials to CMRS-CEGS at cmrs@humnet.ucla.edu.
- Letter of request describing the research project or program (please include dates)
- Explanation of the need to access archive or materials in person (if applicable)
- Budget outlining travel expenses for reimbursement (mileage over 250 miles cannot be reimbursed)
The maximum funding is $2,500. Students may submit only one Ahmanson Research & Study Grant request per academic year to CMRS-CEGS (this limit applies across all CMRS-CEGS research funding, including the Research & Study Travel Grant; students remain eligible for the Conference Travel Grant).
Recipients of the Ahmanson Research & Study Grant are expected to participate in Center activities, including attending CMRS-CEGS-sponsored events and taking part in a graduate-focused engagement event featuring presentations on their research and related professional experiences.
Please note that there will not be funding available for Summer 2026.
